About LIKMEZ
Overview
LIKMEZ is an oral suspension containing metronidazole, a nitroimidazole antimicrobial medicine. It treats trichomoniasis and anaerobic bacterial infections in adults, and amebiasis in adults and children. As an antimicrobial, it works against the microorganisms that cause these infections.

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include nausea, headache, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, upper abdominal discomfort and constipation. Serious side effects reported with metronidazole include severe skin reactions, brain dysfunction, seizures, inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, and peripheral nerve damage. Contact a doctor promptly if abnormal neurological symptoms develop. Stop taking LIKMEZ immediately and seek medical attention if signs of a severe skin reaction develop. LIKMEZ may also cause a mild, temporary decrease in white blood cells. Tell your doctor if you have a history of blood disorders.

Before taking this medicine
Do not take LIKMEZ if you: • Have a history of an allergic reaction to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole medicines. • Have taken disulfiram within the past two weeks. • Consume alcohol or products containing propylene glycol during treatment or for at least three days after treatment ends. • Have Cockayne syndrome. LIКMEZ requires caution in people with a history of blood disorders. It may cause a mild, temporary decrease in white blood cells. Severe skin reactions have been reported with metronidazole. Stop LIKMEZ immediately and seek medical care if signs of a severe skin reaction develop. Brain and nerve problems, seizures and aseptic meningitis have also been reported. New or unusual neurological symptoms need prompt medical assessment to decide whether treatment should continue. If breastfeeding, you may choose to pump and discard breast milk throughout treatment and for 48 hours after the last dose, using previously stored breast milk or formula during this time.
Interactions
Tell your doctor about all medicines you take, especially: • Disulfiram: using it with LIKMEZ can cause psychotic reactions. • Warfarin and other oral blood thinners: LIKMEZ can increase their effect. Blood-clotting tests, including INR, need careful monitoring. • Lithium: LIKMEZ can raise lithium levels. Blood tests to check lithium levels and kidney function are needed during treatment. • Busulfan: LIKMEZ can raise busulfan levels. Using them together should be avoided; if used together, busulfan levels need monitoring and the prescriber may need to adjust treatment. • Medicines that affect liver enzymes called CYP enzymes: these may change how long metronidazole or other medicines remain in the body. • Medicines that can prolong the QT interval, a change in the heart’s electrical activity: QT prolongation has been reported when these are used with LIKMEZ. Avoid alcohol and products containing propylene glycol while using LIKMEZ. Combining them can cause abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, headaches and flushing. Tell your doctor or laboratory staff that you take LIKMEZ, as it may interfere with some blood chemistry test results.
Using LIKMEZ
Dosing
Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.
Storage
Store below 25°C, upright and tightly closed, away from direct light. Check the label for how long it may be used after opening. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
