About Kovaltry
Overview
Kovaltry contains full-length recombinant factor VIII, a blood-clotting protein, and is used in adults and children with hemophilia A. It is used to treat and control bleeding episodes, manage bleeding around surgery, and help reduce how often bleeding occurs. It works by temporarily replacing the missing factor VIII needed for blood to clot. Kovaltry is not indicated for treating von Willebrand disease.
What it treats
For adults and children with hemophilia A (congenital factor VIII deficiency): • Treatment and control of bleeding episodes • Management of bleeding around surgery • Routine prevention to reduce the frequency of bleeding episodes Not indicated for von Willebrand disease.
Safety information
Side effects
Commonly reported side effects include fever, headache and rash. Factor VIII inhibitors, antibodies that interfere with treatment, were also commonly reported in people who had received little or no previous treatment. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur. Stop Kovaltry and seek urgent medical help if an allergic reaction occurs. Contact your doctor if bleeding is not controlled as expected; testing for factor VIII inhibitors may be needed.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Kovaltry if you have a history of allergic reactions to recombinant antihemophilic factor, any other ingredient in the product, or mouse or hamster proteins. Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur. If symptoms develop, stop treatment and seek medical care. Antibodies that block factor VIII activity can develop. If expected factor VIII levels are not reached or bleeding is not controlled as expected, testing for these antibodies is needed.

Storage
Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
