Before taking this medicine

Do not take Jalyn if you are pregnant or have had a clinically significant allergic reaction to dutasteride, other 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, tamsulosin or any other ingredient. It may harm an unborn male baby. Do not use Jalyn with other alpha-blockers or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole. Caution is needed with medicines such as erythromycin, paroxetine, other CYP3A4 or CYP2D6 inhibitors, PDE-5 inhibitors and warfarin. People who metabolise medicines slowly through CYP2D6 also require caution. Jalyn can cause a drop in blood pressure when standing and may cause fainting. Avoid situations where fainting could lead to injury. A prolonged, painful erection is a serious possible reaction and requires urgent medical attention. Jalyn lowers PSA levels, which can affect prostate cancer testing. Any confirmed rise in PSA during treatment should be evaluated, even if it remains within the normal range for untreated men. Medicines containing dutasteride may increase the risk of high-grade prostate cancer. Other urinary conditions that could cause similar symptoms should be considered before treatment. Tell your eye surgeon if you take or have taken Jalyn before cataract or glaucoma surgery, as it may cause problems with the iris during surgery. Do not donate blood during treatment or until 6 months after your last dose.
