About Iwilfin
Overview
Iwilfin (eflornithine) is a prescription medicine supplied as tablets. It is used to reduce the risk of high-risk neuroblastoma returning in adults and children who have had at least a partial response to prior treatment using multiple medicines and treatment methods, including anti-GD2 immunotherapy. It works by blocking an enzyme needed to make polyamines, substances involved in cell growth and division.

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects of Iwilfin include hearing loss, middle ear infection, fever, pneumonia and diarrhea. Serious risks include reduced blood cell counts, liver damage and hearing loss. Contact your doctor if you develop hearing loss or any new or worsening side effects. Severe laboratory abnormalities can include raised liver enzymes, reduced neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) and reduced hemoglobin. Blood counts, liver function and hearing must be monitored before and during treatment. Iwilfin can harm an unborn baby. Use effective contraception if you could become pregnant, and contact your doctor if you become pregnant during treatment.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
The label lists no contraindications for Iwilfin. Iwilfin requires caution because it can reduce blood cell counts, cause liver damage and cause hearing loss. Blood counts, liver function and hearing should be checked before and during treatment. Depending on severity, the prescriber may pause treatment, reduce the dose or stop treatment permanently. Iwilfin can harm an unborn baby. Females who can become pregnant should use effective contraception. Do not breastfeed during treatment. Severe kidney impairment (eGFR below 30 mL/min) requires a dose reduction determined by the prescriber.

Storage
