About Isopto Atropine
Overview
Isopto Atropine is a prescription eye drop medicine containing atropine sulfate. Atropine eye drops are used in adults and children aged 3 months and older to widen the pupil, prevent near focusing, and blur vision in the healthy eye as part of treatment for amblyopia (lazy eye). They work by blocking certain nerve signals in the eye, allowing the pupil to widen and relaxing the muscle used to focus up close.
What it treats
Used in adults and children aged 3 months and older for: • Temporarily relaxing the eye’s focusing muscles (cycloplegia). • Widening the pupil (mydriasis). • Blurring vision in the healthy eye as part of treatment for amblyopia (lazy eye).
Safety information
Side effects
Commonly reported side effects include eye pain or stinging when the drops are applied, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, reduced tear production, a faster heart rate and increased blood pressure. Contact a doctor if you experience blurred vision, sensitivity to light or increased blood pressure, which the label identifies as serious reactions. Blurred vision and sensitivity to light may last up to two weeks. Blood pressure can rise because the medicine is absorbed into the bloodstream.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Isopto Atropine if you are allergic to atropine sulfate or any other ingredient in the drops. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. The medicine can be absorbed into the body and may increase blood pressure. Light sensitivity and blurred vision caused by its effects on pupil response and eye focusing may last up to 2 weeks.
Interactions
Using atropine with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) is generally not recommended because the combination may cause a hypertensive crisis, a dangerous rise in blood pressure. Tell your doctor if you take an MAOI.

Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
