About Iopidine
Overview
Iopidine 1% is an eye drop solution containing apraclonidine hydrochloride. It is used to control or prevent rises in pressure inside the eye after certain laser procedures: argon laser trabeculoplasty, argon laser iridotomy or Nd:YAG posterior capsulotomy. Apraclonidine works by activating receptors called alpha-adrenergic receptors, helping to control eye pressure.

Safety information
Side effects
Reported side effects of Iopidine 1% include eye burning, discomfort, dryness, itching, redness or inflammation, blurred or dimmed vision, a feeling of something in the eye, whitening of the eye’s surface, raised upper eyelids and widened pupils. Other reported effects include dry mouth, altered taste, headache, tiredness, stomach pain or discomfort, diarrhoea, vomiting, nasal burning or dryness, sleep problems and irritability. The label does not establish which effects are common. In laser-surgery studies, the listed reactions each occurred in fewer than 2% of patients. Contact a doctor promptly for an allergic reaction, small areas of bleeding on the eye’s surface, vision changes, a slow or irregular heartbeat, palpitations, faintness or chest heaviness or burning. Abnormally low pressure inside the eye has also been reported. Seek immediate medical help for difficulty breathing, collapse, prolonged extreme drowsiness or unresponsiveness. Serious events reported after apraclonidine eye drops in children aged 6 years and younger, including newborns, include cardiovascular collapse requiring a breathing tube and ventilation, pauses in breathing, low oxygen levels and respiratory failure. High or low blood pressure, low body temperature, reduced muscle tone and paleness have also been reported in these children. The frequency of these postmarketing reactions and hypersensitivity reactions cannot be estimated from the available reports.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Iopidine 1% if you are taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or to clonidine.
Interactions
Interactions between Iopidine and other medicines, supplements or foods have not been investigated.

Storage
