Before taking this medicine

Do not use Humalog during an episode of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), or if you are allergic to insulin lispro or any other ingredient in Humalog. Extra caution and more frequent blood sugar checks are needed if you have kidney or liver problems, do not recognise the warning signs of low blood sugar, or have changes in meals, physical activity or medicines that lower blood sugar. Changes to your insulin treatment or injection site should be made under close medical supervision, as they can cause high or low blood sugar. Severe low blood sugar can be life-threatening. Check the insulin label before every injection to avoid mix-ups. Never transfer Humalog U-200 from a prefilled pen into a syringe, as this can cause an overdose and severe low blood sugar. Never share pens or syringes, even if the needle is changed. Humalog can cause life-threatening allergic reactions and low potassium levels. Stop using Humalog and seek urgent medical help if a serious allergic reaction occurs. People at risk of low potassium may need potassium monitoring. Taking Humalog with thiazolidinediones (TZDs) can cause fluid retention and heart failure and requires monitoring. If an insulin pump malfunctions, high blood sugar and ketoacidosis can occur.
