Frova

Before taking this medicine

Do not take Frova (frovatriptan) if you have: • Coronary artery disease, including angina, a previous heart attack or reduced blood flow to the heart, or coronary artery spasms, including Prinzmetal’s angina. • Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome or heart rhythm problems linked to an extra electrical pathway in the heart. • A history of stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), or hemiplegic or basilar migraine. • Peripheral vascular disease, ischemic bowel disease or uncontrolled high blood pressure. • An allergy to frovatriptan succinate. Severe allergic reactions, including angioedema and anaphylaxis, have been reported. Do not take Frova within 24 hours of another triptan (5-HT1 agonist) or an ergotamine-containing or ergot-type medicine, such as dihydroergotamine or methysergide. A heart assessment is needed before treatment if you have several cardiovascular risk factors. Chest, throat, neck or jaw pain, tightness, pressure or heaviness is generally not related to reduced blood flow to the heart, but needs assessment in people at high risk of coronary artery disease. Treatment must be stopped if abnormal heart rhythms, stroke or bleeding in the brain, reduced blood flow to the bowel, blood vessel spasms affecting the limbs, or serotonin syndrome occur. Overuse can cause medication-overuse headache and may require withdrawal of the overused medicines. If you are pregnant, discuss treatment with your prescriber. Animal studies suggest frovatriptan may harm the unborn baby.
