About Esperoct
Overview
Esperoct (turoctocog alfa pegol) is a recombinant clotting factor VIII medicine. It is used in adults and children with hemophilia A to treat and control bleeding, manage bleeding around surgery, and reduce how often bleeding episodes occur. It works by temporarily replacing the missing factor VIII needed for blood to clot. Esperoct is not indicated for treating von Willebrand disease.
What it treats
For adults and children with hemophilia A: • Treatment and control of bleeding episodes. • Management of bleeding around surgery. • Routine prevention to reduce how often bleeding episodes occur. Esperoct is not indicated for treating von Willebrand disease.
Safety information
Side effects
Commonly reported side effects include rash, redness, itching and reactions at the injection site. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur. Stop using Esperoct and seek immediate medical help if an allergic reaction occurs. Antibodies called Factor VIII inhibitors can develop and interfere with treatment. Contact your doctor if bleeding is not controlled; testing for these inhibitors may be needed. In clinical trials, inhibitors were reported in 30% of previously untreated patients. Previously untreated children may also have a temporary reduction in the expected rise in Factor VIII levels after an infusion.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Esperoct if you have a known allergy to it or any of its components, including hamster proteins. Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur. If an allergic reaction occurs, stop using Esperoct and seek medical care. Antibodies that block Factor VIII activity (inhibitors) may develop. If bleeding is not controlled or Factor VIII activity does not reach the expected level, testing for inhibitors is needed. Children may clear Esperoct from the body faster and have a shorter-lasting effect and a smaller rise in Factor VIII activity after treatment. A temporary decrease in this rise has also been observed in previously untreated children.

Dosing

Storage
Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
