About Erleada
Overview
Erleada contains apalutamide, an androgen receptor inhibitor. It is used to treat prostate cancer that has spread and still responds to treatment that lowers testosterone, or prostate cancer that has not spread but is resistant to such treatment. It works by blocking androgen receptors, interfering with signals from these hormones within prostate cancer cells.
What it treats
- Metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC). - Non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC).
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects of Erleada include tiredness, joint pain, rash, decreased appetite, falls, weight loss, high blood pressure, hot flushes, diarrhoea and bone fractures. Contact a doctor promptly about serious side effects, including problems with blood flow to the brain or heart, fractures, falls, seizures, severe skin reactions and lung inflammation (interstitial lung disease or pneumonitis). Falls occur more often in older people. Severe skin reactions include Stevens–Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis and DRESS, a reaction that can affect the skin and other organs. Treatment must be permanently stopped if a seizure occurs. Suspected severe skin reactions or lung inflammation require treatment to be interrupted while they are assessed. Confirmed severe skin reactions, severe lung inflammation, or lung inflammation with no other identified cause require permanent discontinuation.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Interactions
Apalutamide may reduce the activity of certain medicines processed by CYP3A4, CYP2C19, CYP2C9 or UGT, or transported by P-gp, BCRP or OATP1B1. Ask your doctor to review your other medicines for these interactions, as they may become less effective.

Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
