About Empliciti
Overview
Empliciti (elotuzumab) is a monoclonal antibody used with other medicines to treat adults with multiple myeloma. It is used with lenalidomide and dexamethasone after one to three prior therapies, or with pomalidomide and dexamethasone after at least two prior therapies that included lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor. It targets a protein called SLAMF7 on myeloma cells and certain immune cells, helping the immune system kill myeloma cells.
What it treats
- Multiple myeloma in adults who have received one to three prior therapies, in combination with lenalidomide and dexamethasone. - Multiple myeloma in adults who have received at least two prior therapies, including lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor, in combination with pomalidomide and dexamethasone.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects depend on the medicines used with Empliciti. With lenalidomide and dexamethasone, side effects reported in at least 20% of patients include tiredness, diarrhoea, fever, constipation, cough, nerve problems affecting the hands or feet, nose and throat inflammation, upper respiratory tract infections, reduced appetite and pneumonia. With pomalidomide and dexamethasone, common side effects include constipation and high blood sugar. Serious risks include infusion reactions, infections, liver damage and new cancers. Contact your doctor promptly if you develop fever or other signs of infection. Tell your healthcare team immediately if you experience a reaction during an infusion. Medicines must be given beforehand to help prevent infusion reactions; severe reactions require Empliciti to be stopped permanently. Liver function must be monitored, and treatment stopped if liver damage is suspected. A higher rate of new cancers was observed in a controlled trial of patients with multiple myeloma receiving Empliciti. Empliciti can also interfere with M-protein tests used to monitor treatment response, which may affect the assessment of whether a complete response has been achieved.

Storage
Store in the original carton to protect it from light. Check the pack for whether it must be refrigerated before first use. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
