About Doptelet
Overview
Doptelet is a prescription medicine containing avatrombopag, used to treat thrombocytopenia (a low platelet count). It is indicated for adults with chronic liver disease who are scheduled for a procedure, and for adults with chronic immune thrombocytopenia who have not responded sufficiently to previous treatment. It is also indicated for children aged 1 year and older with persistent or chronic immune thrombocytopenia who have not responded sufficiently to previous treatment. It works by stimulating cells in the bone marrow to increase platelet production.
What it treats
- Low platelet counts in adults with chronic liver disease who are scheduled to undergo a procedure. - Low platelet counts in adults with chronic immune thrombocytopenia who have not responded adequately to previous treatment. - Low platelet counts in children aged 1 year and older with persistent or chronic immune thrombocytopenia who have not responded adequately to previous treatment.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects vary by the condition being treated: In adults with chronic liver disease, they include fever, abdominal pain, nausea, headache, tiredness and swelling of the hands or feet. In adults with chronic immune thrombocytopenia, they include headache, tiredness, bruising, nosebleeds, upper respiratory tract infections, joint pain, bleeding gums, small pinpoint spots of bleeding under the skin, and inflammation of the nose and throat. In children with persistent or chronic immune thrombocytopenia, they include viral infections, inflammation of the nose and throat, cough, fever and throat pain. Serious risks include blood clots, which may form in a blood vessel or travel to block another vessel. Contact a doctor immediately if you develop signs or symptoms of a blood clot. Platelet counts and signs of blood clots should be monitored during treatment, and suspected blood clots require prompt treatment.
Before taking this medicine
The supplied FDA label lists no contraindications for Doptelet. However, medicines in its class have been associated with blood clots in patients with chronic liver disease or immune thrombocytopenia. Platelet counts and signs or symptoms of blood clots should be monitored, and any clotting event requires prompt treatment. Doptelet may harm an unborn baby. If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy, speak with your prescriber. Do not breastfeed while taking Doptelet.
Interactions
Tell your doctor about all medicines you take. Medicines that moderately or strongly increase or block the activity of both CYP2C9 and CYP3A4 enzymes can interact with Doptelet. If you take Doptelet for persistent or chronic immune thrombocytopenia, your prescriber may need to adjust your dose.

Storage
