About Denavir

Overview

Denavir is a topical antiviral cream containing penciclovir. It is used to treat recurrent cold sores in adults and children aged 12 years and older. It works by blocking an enzyme the herpes simplex virus needs to copy its DNA, limiting the virus’s ability to multiply.

Side effects

Local skin reactions were reported in 3% of people treated with Denavir, compared with 4% of those treated with placebo.

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Denavir if you have a known allergy to the product or any of its ingredients. It is only for topical use on cold sores on the lips and face.

Interactions

No drug interaction studies have been performed with Denavir. Because very little is absorbed into the bloodstream, interactions with medicines acting elsewhere in the body are unlikely.

Dosing

Storage

Store below 25°C with the cap closed, away from direct light and heat. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
