About Daliresp
Overview
Daliresp is a prescription medicine containing roflumilast. It is used to reduce the risk of flare-ups in people with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) associated with chronic bronchitis and a history of flare-ups. It blocks an enzyme called PDE4, increasing levels of a chemical messenger in lung cells, though exactly how this helps in COPD is not fully understood. It is not a bronchodilator and is not intended to relieve sudden airway tightening.
What it treats
- To reduce the risk of flare-ups in people with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) associated with chronic bronchitis and a history of flare-ups. Not for relief of sudden airway tightening (acute bronchospasm).
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include diarrhoea, weight loss, nausea, headache, back pain, flu, difficulty sleeping, dizziness and decreased appetite. Contact your doctor if you develop new or worsening difficulty sleeping, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts or other mood changes. Patients, caregivers and family members should watch for these changes. Seek immediate medical help if you have suicidal thoughts. Monitor your weight regularly and contact your doctor if you have unexplained or significant weight loss. Your doctor should assess the weight loss and may consider stopping Daliresp.
When to call your doctor
If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Daliresp if you have moderate to severe liver impairment (Child-Pugh B or C). It should not be used while breastfeeding, as roflumilast or its breakdown products are likely to pass into human milk, and effects on breastfed infants have not been studied in humans. Daliresp must not be used to relieve sudden airway tightening (acute bronchospasm). If you have a history of depression, suicidal thoughts or suicidal behaviour, your prescriber should carefully weigh the risks and benefits before treatment. You, your family and caregivers should watch for new or worsening sleep problems, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts or other mood changes. Contact your healthcare provider if these occur. Monitor your weight regularly. Unexplained or significant weight loss should be assessed by your healthcare provider, who may consider stopping treatment. Use with strong enzyme-inducing medicines, such as rifampicin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine or phenytoin, is not recommended.
Interactions
Erythromycin, ketoconazole, fluvoxamine, enoxacin and cimetidine can increase the amount of roflumilast in your body, which may increase side effects. Tell your doctor if you take any of these medicines or other medicines that block the enzymes CYP3A4 or CYP1A2. Your doctor should carefully weigh the risks and benefits of using them with Daliresp.

Dosing
Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
