About Cablivi

Overview

Cablivi (caplacizumab-yhdp) is an antibody fragment medicine that targets von Willebrand factor, a protein involved in platelet adhesion. It treats acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (aTTP) in adults and children aged 12 years and older, alongside plasma exchange and immunosuppressive therapy. It works by blocking the interaction between von Willebrand factor and platelets, reducing platelet sticking and the number of platelets used up.

Safety information

Side effects

In adults, the most common side effects are nosebleeds, headache and bleeding gums. In children, the most frequently reported side effects are nosebleeds and a fast heartbeat. Serious bleeding can occur and may be fatal. Contact a doctor immediately if you experience significant bleeding. The risk is higher in people with an underlying blood-clotting disorder or those taking antiplatelet medicines or anticoagulants.

When to call your doctor

- Seek medical attention immediately for heavy bleeding or bleeding that will not stop, including from the nose or gums.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.

Before taking this medicine

Cablivi must not be used by anyone who has previously had a severe allergic reaction to caplacizumab-yhdp or any of its other ingredients. Allergic reactions have included hives. Serious and fatal bleeding can occur. Extra caution is needed in people with an underlying blood-clotting disorder or those taking antiplatelet medicines or anticoagulants, as these increase the risk of bleeding. Treatment should be interrupted if clinically significant bleeding occurs. Cablivi should be withheld for 7 days before planned surgery, dental procedures or other invasive procedures.

Interactions

Using Cablivi with anticoagulants (blood thinners) or antiplatelet medicines may increase the risk of bleeding. Tell your doctor if you take these medicines, as close monitoring for bleeding is needed when they are used together.

Storage

Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
