About Azopt
Overview
Azopt is an eye drop suspension containing brinzolamide. It is used to treat elevated pressure inside the eye in people with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma. It works by blocking an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase, reducing the amount of fluid produced inside the eye and lowering eye pressure.

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include blurred vision and a bitter, sour or unusual taste, reported in 5% to 10% of patients. Contact a doctor if you develop an allergic reaction to sulfonamides or swelling of the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye). Corneal swelling may occur in people with low counts of the cells lining the inner surface of the cornea.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Azopt if you are allergic to brinzolamide or any other ingredient in the product. Azopt carries a warning for sulfonamide hypersensitivity reactions. Tell your prescriber if you have a sulfonamide allergy. Caution is also needed if you have a low corneal endothelial cell count, as swelling of the cornea may occur.
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you take an oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, as using it with Azopt may increase the effects of carbonic anhydrase inhibition throughout the body. Also mention high-dose salicylate treatment, which has rarely been associated with changes in the body’s acid–base balance.

Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
