Augmentin

Before taking this medicine

Do not take Augmentin if you have had a serious allergic reaction, such as anaphylaxis or Stevens–Johnson syndrome, to Augmentin, penicillins, cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Do not take it if previous Augmentin use caused liver problems or cholestatic jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes due to impaired bile flow). Avoid Augmentin if you have mononucleosis, because of the risk of a skin rash. Tell your prescriber if you have liver disease or severe kidney impairment. Liver function monitoring is needed in people with liver impairment, and severe kidney impairment requires a dose adjustment by the prescriber. Serious allergic reactions, including fatal reactions, can occur. Stop taking Augmentin and seek urgent medical help if an allergic reaction occurs. Stop taking it and contact your prescriber if signs or symptoms of liver inflammation develop. Diarrhea during treatment needs medical assessment because it may be associated with Clostridium difficile. New fungal or bacterial infections may also develop during treatment.
