About Ajovy

Overview

Ajovy (fremanezumab) is a prescription medicine supplied as a pre-filled pen for injection under the skin. It is used to prevent migraine in adults and episodic migraine in children aged 6 to 17 years who weigh at least 45 kg. It works by binding to a protein called calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), blocking it from attaching to its receptor.

Side effects

The most common side effects of Ajovy are reactions at the injection site. Contact a doctor if you develop an allergic reaction, constipation, new or worsening high blood pressure, or new or worsening Raynaud’s phenomenon. Allergic reactions have been reported from within hours to one month after administration. Constipation can cause serious complications.

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Ajovy if you have had a serious allergic reaction to fremanezumab or any of its other ingredients. Reported reactions include anaphylaxis and angioedema (swelling beneath the skin). Allergic reactions may occur, with most reported from within hours to one month after administration. If a reaction occurs, treatment may need to be stopped and appropriate care given. Ajovy may cause constipation with serious complications, new or worsening high blood pressure, and new or worsening Raynaud’s phenomenon. These conditions require caution.

Storage

Store in the original carton to protect it from light. Check the pack for whether it must be refrigerated before first use and how long it may be kept at room temperature afterwards. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
