About Yorvipath

Overview

Yorvipath (palopegteriparatide) is a parathyroid hormone analog supplied in a prefilled pen for injection under the skin. It is used to treat hypoparathyroidism in adults. It releases an active portion of parathyroid hormone, which helps regulate calcium and phosphate levels in the body. Yorvipath has not been studied for acute hypoparathyroidism following surgery.

Side effects

Common side effects include injection site reactions, symptoms related to widening of blood vessels, headache, diarrhea, back pain, high blood calcium and throat pain. Each was reported in at least 5% of patients. Serious risks include allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, swelling and hives; seriously high or low blood calcium; and a drop in blood pressure when standing. Contact a doctor promptly if signs of these reactions occur. Anaphylaxis requires emergency medical care. Blood calcium needs periodic monitoring. There is a potential risk of osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Yorvipath is not recommended for people at increased risk of this cancer. If you take digoxin, high blood calcium may increase the risk of digoxin toxicity; frequent calcium and digoxin level checks and monitoring for toxicity are needed.

When to call your doctor

- Seek immediate medical attention for sudden swelling beneath the skin or hives, which may signal a serious allergic reaction.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Yorvipath if you have had a severe allergic reaction to palopegteriparatide or any of its other ingredients. Reported reactions include anaphylaxis, swelling beneath the skin (angioedema) and hives. Stop treatment and seek medical care if signs of an allergic reaction occur. Yorvipath must be stopped permanently if a severe allergic reaction occurs. Yorvipath is not recommended for people at increased risk of osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. It can cause seriously high or low blood calcium levels, so regular calcium blood tests and monitoring for symptoms are needed. Blood pressure may also fall when standing up. If you take digoxin, high calcium levels may increase the risk of digoxin toxicity. Calcium and digoxin levels need frequent monitoring, along with checks for signs of toxicity. If you are breastfeeding, your baby should be monitored for symptoms of high or low calcium levels. Calcium blood tests for your baby may also be considered.

Interactions

Tell your doctor about any medicines you take that are known to affect calcium levels. If these are used with Yorvipath, your blood calcium levels should be checked more frequently.

Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.

Storage

Store in the original carton to protect it from light. Check the pack for whether it must be refrigerated before first use and how long it may be kept at room temperature afterwards. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
