About Winrevair

Overview

Winrevair contains sotatercept-csrk, an activin signaling inhibitor. It treats adults with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH, WHO Group 1) to improve exercise capacity and functional class, a measure of how symptoms limit activity. It is also indicated to reduce the risk of worsening PAH, including hospitalization, lung transplantation and death. It works by blocking certain signals involved in cell growth, helping rebalance signals that regulate growth in blood vessel walls.

What it treats

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH, WHO Group 1) in adults, to improve exercise capacity and WHO functional class and reduce the risk of clinical worsening, including hospitalization for PAH, lung transplantation and death.

Safety information

Side effects

Common side effects include infections, nosebleeds, small visible blood vessels near the skin’s surface, diarrhea, headache, rash, increased hemoglobin, dizziness, skin redness and bleeding gums. Serious risks include a marked increase in red blood cells, which can raise the risk of blood clots and overly thick blood, and severely low platelet counts, which can increase bleeding risk. Serious bleeding has been reported, particularly in people taking prostacyclin or medicines that reduce blood clotting, or those with low platelet counts. Seek medical attention immediately for serious bleeding; Winrevair must not be given while serious bleeding is occurring. Blood tests are needed to monitor hemoglobin and platelet levels during treatment. Winrevair may harm an unborn baby and may impair fertility in females and males. Contact your doctor if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. Effective contraception is needed for those who can become pregnant.

When to call your doctor

• Seek medical attention immediately for severe bleeding, including heavy nosebleeds or heavy bleeding from the gums.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.

Before taking this medicine

The label lists no contraindications. However, Winrevair must not be given to someone who is experiencing serious bleeding. Caution is needed because Winrevair can raise haemoglobin levels and severely lower platelet counts. Severe increases in haemoglobin may raise the risk of blood clots and blood becoming too thick. Low platelet counts increase bleeding risk. Haemoglobin and platelets need monitoring before each of the first five doses, longer if levels are unstable, and periodically thereafter. Serious bleeding is more likely in people taking prostacyclin and/or medicines that reduce blood clotting, or in those with low platelet counts. Winrevair may harm an unborn baby. Women who could become pregnant should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding is not recommended. Winrevair may also impair fertility in women and men.

Storage

Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
