About Trumenba
Overview
Trumenba is a vaccine approved for people aged 10 through 25 years. It is used to help prevent invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B bacteria. It contains two bacterial proteins that help the immune system develop antibodies that work with the body’s defenses to kill these bacteria.
What it treats
Prevention of invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B in people aged 10 through 25 years.
Safety information
Side effects
The most common side effects reported in adolescents and young adults were injection-site pain (at least 85%), tiredness (at least 60%), headache (at least 55%) and muscle pain (at least 35%). Fainting can also occur with Trumenba vaccination. Precautions should be in place to prevent injury from fainting.
When to call your doctor
If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Trumenba must not be given to anyone who has had a severe allergic reaction, such as anaphylaxis, to any of its components. Fainting can occur after vaccination. Precautions should be in place to prevent injury if fainting occurs. Safety and effectiveness have not been established in children younger than 10 years.
Interactions
In clinical trials, Trumenba was given alongside the quadrivalent HPV vaccine (HPV4) in adolescents aged 11–17, and alongside meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) and tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap) vaccines in adolescents aged 10–12.
