About Taltz

Overview

Taltz contains ixekizumab, a monoclonal antibody given by injection under the skin. It treats moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in people aged 6 years and older who are candidates for systemic therapy or light therapy. It also treats adults with active psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis, or active non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis with objective signs of inflammation. It works by blocking IL-17A, a protein involved in immune and inflammatory responses, reducing the release of substances that promote inflammation.

What it treats

- Moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in patients aged 6 years or older who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy. - Active psoriatic arthritis in adults. - Active ankylosing spondylitis in adults. - Active non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis in adults with objective signs of inflammation.

Safety information

Side effects

Common side effects of Taltz include injection site reactions, upper respiratory tract infections, nausea and fungal skin infections (tinea). Serious side effects include serious infections, serious allergic reactions, severe eczema-like skin eruptions, and new or worsening inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Contact a doctor if you develop signs or symptoms of an infection, severe eczema-like skin changes, or new or worsening inflammatory bowel disease. Seek immediate medical help for a serious allergic reaction. Taltz must be stopped if a serious allergic reaction occurs or inflammatory bowel disease develops. If a serious infection develops, treatment must be stopped until it resolves. Severe eczema-like skin eruptions may also require treatment to be stopped.

When to call your doctor

- Seek medical advice for signs of a significant new or ongoing infection. - Get immediate medical help for a serious allergic reaction. - Contact your doctor for a severe eczema-like skin rash. - Contact your doctor for new or worsening symptoms of Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Taltz if you have previously had a serious allergic reaction, such as anaphylaxis, to ixekizumab or any other ingredient in the medicine. Serious infections have occurred with Taltz. Seek medical advice if you develop signs or symptoms of a significant infection. If a serious infection develops, Taltz must be stopped until the infection resolves. You should be evaluated for tuberculosis (TB) before starting treatment. If a serious allergic reaction occurs, stop Taltz immediately and seek urgent medical care. Severe eczema-like skin reactions have also been reported and may require treatment to be stopped. Tell your prescriber if you have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, as these conditions can develop or worsen during treatment and require close monitoring. If inflammatory bowel disease develops, Taltz must be stopped and appropriate treatment started. Avoid live vaccines while using Taltz.

Storage

Store in the original carton to protect it from light. Check the pack for whether it must be refrigerated before first use and how long it may be kept at room temperature afterwards. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
