Seasonique

Before taking this medicine

Do not take Seasonique if you: • Smoke and are over 35. • Have or have previously had a blood clot in a deep vein or the lungs. • Have disease affecting blood vessels in the brain, coronary artery disease, certain heart valve or heart rhythm conditions that increase clot risk, or an inherited or acquired blood-clotting disorder. • Have uncontrolled high blood pressure, high blood pressure with blood vessel disease, or diabetes with blood vessel disease. • Have headaches with specific neurological symptoms, or migraines with or without aura if you are over 35. • Have unexplained abnormal genital bleeding. • Have or have previously had breast cancer or another cancer sensitive to estrogen or progestin. • Have liver disease or liver tumors, whether cancerous or noncancerous. • Are pregnant. Seasonique is not recommended while breastfeeding because it can reduce milk production. If you have prediabetes or diabetes, you need monitoring while taking Seasonique. If blood fat levels are not controlled, another contraceptive method may be more appropriate. Significant changes in headaches, irregular bleeding or absent periods need medical assessment. Stop Seasonique if a blood clot or jaundice occurs. Seasonique must be stopped at least four weeks before major surgery and remain stopped through two weeks afterward. Women who are not breastfeeding should not start it until at least four weeks after delivery.
