About Renova

Overview

Renova is a prescription skin treatment containing tretinoin, a retinoid related to vitamin A. It is used to help reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles associated with sun damage, alongside sun protection and regular skin care. It works by increasing skin cell turnover, helping the skin renew its surface.

What it treats

Safety information

Side effects

Common side effects include redness, dryness, peeling, itching, and burning or stinging where Renova is applied. Skin may become more sensitive to sunlight and more prone to sunburn. Contact a doctor if irritation is severe or persistent, or if you develop marked swelling, blistering, crusting or pain. Stop using Renova and seek urgent medical help if you develop signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as hives, swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing.

When to call your doctor

- Trouble breathing, throat tightness, or swelling of the face, lips or tongue. - Severe skin pain, redness, swelling or blistering where the medicine is applied.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Renova if you are allergic to tretinoin or any other ingredient in the product. It should not be used during pregnancy or when planning a pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding, discuss use with your prescriber and do not apply it to the breast. Extra caution is needed if you have eczema or sensitive skin. Do not apply to sunburned, broken or irritated skin. Tretinoin can increase sensitivity to sunlight; avoid sunbeds and protect treated skin from sun exposure. Tell your prescriber about other skin treatments or medicines that cause irritation or increase sensitivity to sunlight.

Interactions

Tell your doctor about other medicines or skin treatments you use, especially other retinoids and acne products containing benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, sulfur or resorcinol. Using these with Renova may increase dryness, redness, peeling or irritation. Medicated or abrasive cleansers, astringents and products with a high alcohol content can also worsen irritation. Medicines that increase sensitivity to sunlight, including certain antibiotics and diuretics, need review because tretinoin can make skin more sensitive to sun exposure. Include vitamins, supplements and non-prescription products when discussing your medicines with your doctor.

Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.

Storage

Store below 25°C with the cap closed, away from direct light and heat. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
