About Omvoh

Overview

Omvoh (mirikizumab) is a monoclonal antibody medicine supplied as a pre-filled pen for injection under the skin. It is used to treat moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease in adults. It works by blocking IL-23, a protein involved in inflammation in the lining of the intestines.

Side effects

Common side effects reported with Omvoh include upper respiratory tract infections, injection site reactions, joint pain and headache. Rash and herpes viral infections are also listed among common side effects during maintenance treatment for ulcerative colitis. Elevated liver test results are listed among common side effects in Crohn’s disease. Serious risks include severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, serious infections, tuberculosis (TB) and liver injury. Seek immediate medical help for a severe allergic reaction. Contact your doctor promptly if you develop signs of an infection, including TB, during or after treatment, or if liver injury is suspected. Omvoh may need to be stopped or interrupted if a severe allergic reaction, serious infection or suspected liver injury occurs. Liver blood tests are needed before treatment, for at least the first 24 weeks and thereafter as part of routine care.

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Omvoh if you have had a serious allergic reaction to mirikizumab or any of its other ingredients, or if you have active tuberculosis (TB). Omvoh may increase the risk of infection. Do not start treatment if you have a clinically important active infection until it has cleared or been adequately treated. If a serious infection develops, Omvoh should be withheld until it clears. Monitoring for signs and symptoms of active TB is needed during and after treatment. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported. If a severe allergic reaction occurs, stop Omvoh and seek immediate medical care. Liver injury has been reported. Liver enzymes and bilirubin should be checked before treatment, monitored for at least the first 24 weeks, and checked thereafter as part of routine care. Treatment should be interrupted if drug-induced liver injury is suspected, until it has been ruled out. Avoid live vaccines during treatment.

Storage

Store in the original carton to protect it from light. Check the pack for whether it must be refrigerated before first use and how long it may be kept at room temperature afterwards. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
