Nexplanon

Before taking this medicine

Nexplanon must not be used if you have known or suspected pregnancy; current or previous blood clots or clot-related disorders; liver tumors or active liver disease; unexplained abnormal uterine bleeding; known or suspected breast cancer, a history of breast cancer, or another current or previous cancer sensitive to progestins; or an allergy to any component of Nexplanon. Insertion and removal can cause pain, tingling or numbness, bleeding, bruising, scarring or infection. The implant may move into blood vessels, including those in the lungs, and surgical removal may be needed. Symptoms can include chest pain, shortness of breath, cough or coughing up blood. Menstrual bleeding may change in frequency, amount or duration. Pregnancy or lower abdominal pain during use requires assessment for a possible ectopic pregnancy. The implant should be removed if a blood clot develops, jaundice occurs, or blood pressure rises significantly and becomes uncontrolled. People with prediabetes or diabetes need monitoring during use. If pregnancy occurs and is to be continued, Nexplanon should be discontinued.
