About Manerix
Overview
Manerix is a prescription antidepressant containing moclobemide, available as tablets. It is used to treat depression. It works by blocking an enzyme that breaks down certain chemical messengers in the brain, helping increase their availability to support mood regulation.
What it treats
Major depressive episodes. Social anxiety disorder (social phobia).
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects of Manerix (moclobemide) include difficulty sleeping, dizziness, headache, nausea and dry mouth. Contact a doctor promptly if you develop marked agitation, confusion, or an unusually elevated mood with increased energy and reduced need for sleep. Worsening depression or thoughts of self-harm or suicide require immediate medical help. Seek urgent medical help for: • Fever, agitation or confusion together with sweating, tremor, muscle stiffness or a fast heartbeat. These may indicate serotonin syndrome, particularly when moclobemide is combined with certain other medicines. • A sudden severe headache, chest pain or a pounding heartbeat, which may indicate a dangerous rise in blood pressure. • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing, which may indicate a serious allergic reaction.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Manerix must not be taken by anyone allergic to moclobemide or any tablet ingredient, or by people with acute confusion or a phaeochromocytoma (a tumour that can cause dangerously high blood pressure). It must not be combined with certain medicines, including other monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressants, clomipramine, pethidine, tramadol, dextromethorphan, linezolid or triptan migraine medicines. Some combinations can cause serious reactions, including serotonin syndrome. A waiting period may be needed when switching between antidepressants; the prescriber must manage this. All prescription medicines, over-the-counter products and supplements should be checked before treatment. Particular caution is needed in people with liver problems, an overactive thyroid, bipolar disorder, a history of mania, or schizophrenia or related psychotic disorders. Monitor for worsening depression, suicidal thoughts, unusual agitation or signs of mania, especially early in treatment or after treatment changes. Pregnancy and breastfeeding require an individual assessment of benefits and risks. Moclobemide is not recommended for children.
Interactions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines and supplements before taking Manerix. Important interactions include: - Other antidepressants, other monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), linezolid, tramadol, pethidine (meperidine), dextromethorphan-containing cough medicines, triptans for migraine and St John’s wort. Combinations may cause serious reactions, including serotonin syndrome. Some must not be used together, and a waiting period may be needed when switching treatments. - Decongestants containing pseudoephedrine or ephedrine, and stimulant medicines, which may cause a dangerous rise in blood pressure. - Cimetidine, which can increase moclobemide levels. Avoid large amounts of tyramine-rich foods, such as mature cheeses, yeast extracts and fermented soy products, because they may trigger a rise in blood pressure. Seek urgent medical help for agitation, fever, sweating, tremor or muscle stiffness, or a sudden severe headache with palpitations. Check before starting, stopping or changing any medicine.

Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
