Increased risk of serious bacterial, fungal, viral, and opportunistic infections that may lead to hospitalization or death, including tuberculosis (TB). About Litfulo
Overview
Litfulo contains ritlecitinib, a medicine called a kinase inhibitor. It is used to treat severe alopecia areata in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older. It works by blocking certain enzymes involved in immune signalling, although how these specific effects contribute to its benefit is not fully known. It is not recommended for use with other JAK inhibitors, biologic medicines that modify the immune system, cyclosporine or other powerful immune-suppressing medicines.
What it treats
Severe alopecia areata in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include headache, diarrhea, acne, rash, hives, inflammation of hair follicles, fever, eczema, dizziness, shingles, mouth inflammation, reduced red blood cell counts, and increased blood levels of an enzyme called creatine phosphokinase. Serious risks include serious infections, cancer and disorders involving abnormal growth of lymphatic cells, blood clots, significant allergic reactions, and abnormal blood test results. Contact your doctor promptly if you suspect a serious side effect. Stop taking Litfulo if a significant allergic reaction occurs and seek medical advice. If you have diabetes, notify your healthcare provider if you develop symptoms of low blood sugar; more frequent blood glucose monitoring may be needed. Changes in lymphocyte or platelet counts may require treatment to be interrupted or stopped by your prescriber.

Before taking this medicine
Do not take Litfulo if you have a known allergy to ritlecitinib or any of its other ingredients. Stop treatment if a clinically significant allergic reaction occurs. Litfulo is not recommended for people with severe liver impairment. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment. If you have diabetes, closer blood glucose monitoring may be needed. Tell your healthcare provider if you develop signs or symptoms of low blood sugar. Your lymphocyte and platelet counts should be checked before treatment. Abnormal results may require treatment to be paused or stopped. Avoid live vaccines during treatment or shortly before starting Litfulo.
Interactions
Litfulo can interact with certain medicines broken down by enzymes called CYP3A or CYP1A2. Your doctor may need to monitor you more closely or adjust those medicines. Taking Litfulo with medicines that strongly increase CYP3A activity (strong CYP3A inducers) is not recommended. Ask your doctor whether any of your medicines fall into these groups.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
