Invega Sustenna

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Invega Sustenna if you have a known allergy to paliperidone, risperidone or any of its ingredients. Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis and angioedema (swelling), have been reported. Use should be avoided with other medicines that prolong the QT interval (affect the heart’s electrical rhythm), or if you have risk factors for QT prolongation. Older adults with dementia-related psychosis have an increased risk of stroke or transient ischaemic attack. Tell your prescriber if you have heart or blood vessel disease, are at risk of dehydration or fainting, have a history of seizures, or have a condition that increases seizure risk. Blood pressure and heart rate may need monitoring. If you have a low white blood cell count or a history of low white blood cells, blood count monitoring is needed. Other important risks include neuroleptic malignant syndrome, which requires immediate discontinuation and close monitoring, and tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements), which may require stopping treatment. Blood sugar, blood fats and weight should be monitored. Prolactin levels can rise and remain elevated during ongoing treatment. Use caution when operating machinery because thinking and movement may be impaired. If you are pregnant, tell your prescriber. Exposure during the third trimester may cause movement-related symptoms or withdrawal symptoms in the newborn.
