Cardiomyopathy: Trastuzumab products can result in subclinical and clinical cardiac failure manifesting as CHF, and decreased LVEF, with greatest risk when administered concurrently with anthracyclines. Evaluate cardiac function prior to and during treatment. Discontinue HERZUMA for cardiomyopathy.
Infusion Reactions, Pulmonary Toxicity: Discontinue HERZUMA for anaphylaxis, angioedema, interstitial pneumonitis, or acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Embryo-Fetal Toxicity: Exposure to trastuzumab products during pregnancy can result in oligohydramnios, in some cases complicated by pulmonary hypoplasia and neonatal death. Advise patients of these risks and the need for effective contraception.
About HERZUMA
Overview
HERZUMA contains trastuzumab-pkrb, a monoclonal antibody given intravenously. It is used in adults to treat breast cancer that overproduces HER2 and metastatic adenocarcinoma of the stomach or the junction between the stomach and esophagus that overproduces HER2. A companion diagnostic test is used to select patients for treatment. It binds to HER2 on cancer cells, helping limit their growth and supporting immune-cell attacks on them.
What it treats
- HER2-overexpressing breast cancer in adults. - HER2-overexpressing metastatic adenocarcinoma of the stomach or gastroesophageal junction in adults. Patients are selected for treatment using an FDA-approved companion diagnostic test for a trastuzumab product.

Side effects
Common side effects vary with the cancer being treated and may include: • Breast cancer treated after surgery: headache, diarrhea, nausea and chills. • Metastatic breast cancer: fever, chills, headache, infection, difficulty sleeping, cough and rash. • Metastatic stomach cancer: low white blood cell counts, diarrhea, tiredness, anemia, mouth sores, weight loss, upper respiratory tract infections, fever, low platelet counts, inflammation of moist body linings, nose and throat inflammation, and changes in taste. Serious side effects that warrant prompt contact with a doctor include heart muscle damage or heart failure, reactions during an infusion, lung toxicity, and worsening of chemotherapy-related low neutrophil counts, a type of white blood cell. Heart failure is also listed among the most common adverse reactions in metastatic breast cancer. HERZUMA can harm an unborn baby. Contact your doctor promptly if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant during treatment.

Before taking this medicine
The label lists no contraindications for HERZUMA. Caution is needed because it may worsen low neutrophil counts caused by chemotherapy. Pregnancy status should be checked before starting HERZUMA in females who could become pregnant.
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you are receiving or may receive anthracycline chemotherapy after stopping HERZUMA. Trastuzumab can remain in the body for a long time, which may increase the risk of heart problems with these medicines. If possible, anthracyclines should be avoided for up to 7 months after stopping HERZUMA. If they are used, your doctor should closely monitor your heart function.
