Before taking this medicine

Hemangeol must not be used in: • Premature infants whose corrected age is under 5 weeks. • Infants weighing less than 2 kg. • Patients allergic to propranolol or any other ingredient. • Patients with asthma or a history of bronchospasm (narrowing of the airways). • Patients with a heart rate below 80 beats per minute, heart block greater than first degree, or decompensated heart failure. • Patients with blood pressure below 50/30 mmHg. • Patients with pheochromocytoma. Hemangeol can cause low blood sugar and hide warning signs such as a racing heart and sweating. Do not give it when the child cannot feed or is vomiting. Treatment should also be withheld during fasting, poor food intake or conditions that increase blood sugar needs, such as cold, stress or infection. Low blood sugar can cause seizures, unusual drowsiness or coma. Stop treatment and seek urgent medical care if low blood sugar develops. Corticosteroids may increase this risk. Hemangeol can slow the heart rate, lower blood pressure and worsen heart failure. Heart rate and blood pressure need monitoring when treatment starts or is increased. Severe or symptomatic slowing of the heart rate or low blood pressure requires stopping treatment. Interrupt treatment if a lower respiratory tract infection causes breathing difficulty and wheezing. In children with PHACE syndrome and severe abnormalities of the brain’s blood vessels, lowered blood pressure may increase stroke risk. Infants with large facial hemangiomas should be assessed for associated blood vessel abnormalities before treatment. Hemangeol may interfere with epinephrine used to treat a severe allergic reaction. There is no experience with its use in infants with liver or kidney impairment. Safety and effectiveness for infantile hemangioma have not been established in children older than 1 year.
