About Gardasil 9
Overview
Gardasil 9 is a recombinant vaccine against nine types of human papillomavirus (HPV), for people aged 9 through 45 years. It helps prevent certain HPV-related cancers, including cervical and anal cancers, as well as genital warts and certain precancerous changes; it does not treat existing HPV-related disease. It is thought to work by stimulating antibodies against the HPV types it contains, although the exact mechanism of protection is unknown. Vaccination may not protect everyone and does not replace recommended cancer screening.
What it treats
Gardasil 9 is used to help prevent, rather than treat, the following conditions caused by HPV types covered by the vaccine in people aged 9–45 years: • Girls and women: cervical, vulvar, vaginal and anal cancers; certain throat and other head and neck cancers; genital warts; and precancerous or abnormal cell changes in the cervix, vulva, vagina and anus. • Boys and men: anal cancer; certain throat and other head and neck cancers; genital warts; and precancerous or abnormal cell changes in the anus. The throat and other head and neck cancer indication has accelerated approval, with continued approval potentially dependent on confirmation of clinical benefit. Vaccination does not replace recommended cancer screening and may not protect everyone.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include pain, swelling and redness at the injection site. Headache is also common in girls and women. Fainting can occur after HPV vaccination and may lead to falls and injury. It can sometimes involve seizure-like movements. Contact a doctor if fainting or seizure-like activity occurs. Observation for 15 minutes after vaccination is recommended.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not receive Gardasil 9 if you have had an allergic reaction, including a severe reaction, to yeast or after a previous dose of Gardasil 9 or Gardasil. Fainting can occur after HPV vaccination and may cause falls and injuries. It can sometimes involve brief seizure-like movements. Observation for 15 minutes after vaccination is recommended.

Dosing

Storage
Store in the original carton to protect it from light. Check the pack for whether it must be refrigerated before first use. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
