About Entyvio

Overview

Entyvio contains vedolizumab, a monoclonal antibody medicine. It is used to treat adults with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease. It works by blocking a protein called α4β7 integrin, limiting the movement of certain immune cells into inflamed tissue in the gut.

What it treats

Side effects

Common side effects include cold-like symptoms, headache, joint pain, nausea, fever, upper respiratory tract infections, tiredness, cough, bronchitis, flu, back pain, rash, itching, sinusitis, sore throat, and pain in the arms or legs. Injections under the skin may also cause injection-site reactions. Serious side effects include infusion-related reactions, allergic reactions, serious infections, and liver injury. Contact a doctor immediately if you develop a serious infusion-related or allergic reaction, or a serious infection. Contact a doctor if you suspect liver injury. Entyvio should not be given during a serious infection until it has resolved. Although unlikely, a risk of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) cannot be ruled out. Contact a doctor immediately about any new or worsening neurological signs or symptoms.

When to call your doctor

- Seek immediate medical attention for a serious allergic reaction or a serious reaction related to an infusion. - Seek immediate medical attention if you develop a serious infection. - Seek immediate medical attention for any new or worsening symptoms affecting your brain or nerves.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Entyvio (vedolizumab) if you have had a serious or severe allergic reaction to it or any of its ingredients. Treatment should not begin if you have a clinically important active infection until it has resolved or been adequately treated. If a serious infection develops during treatment, Entyvio should not be given until the infection resolves. Infusion-related reactions and allergic reactions can occur. If a serious reaction occurs, Entyvio must be stopped and appropriate treatment started. Although unlikely, a risk of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) cannot be ruled out. Patients should be monitored for new or worsening neurological signs or symptoms.
