About Demadex
Overview
Demadex contains torsemide, a loop diuretic. It treats fluid buildup (edema) associated with heart failure, kidney disease or liver disease, and is also used to lower high blood pressure. It works in the kidneys to increase the amount of salt and water passed out in urine.

- Fluid retention (edema) associated with heart failure, kidney disease or liver disease. - High blood pressure (hypertension).
Safety information
Side effects
Excessive urination is the most common side effect, reported in 6.7% of patients. Serious side effects that warrant contacting a doctor include low blood pressure, worsening kidney function, changes in electrolyte levels or blood glucose, and harmful effects on hearing. Fluid levels, kidney function, electrolytes and blood glucose should be monitored periodically.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Demadex (torsemide) if you are allergic to torsemide or povidone, cannot produce urine (anuria), or are in a coma caused by liver disease (hepatic coma). Torsemide requires caution because it can cause low blood pressure, worsening kidney function, changes in electrolyte levels and blood glucose, and toxic effects on hearing. Fluid status, kidney function, blood electrolytes and blood glucose should be monitored periodically.
Interactions
Tell your doctor about all medicines you take, especially: - Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): may reduce torsemide’s fluid-removing and blood-pressure-lowering effects and increase the risk of kidney problems. - Medicines that inhibit the enzyme CYP2C9: may slow the removal of torsemide from the body. Torsemide may also affect the safety and effectiveness of certain medicines processed by this enzyme, including warfarin and phenytoin. - Cholestyramine: may reduce the amount of torsemide reaching the bloodstream. - Organic anion drugs: may reduce torsemide’s fluid-removing effect. - Lithium: may increase the risk of lithium toxicity. - Renin-angiotensin inhibitors: may increase the risk of low blood pressure and kidney problems. - Corticosteroids or ACTH: may increase the risk of low blood potassium. Also tell your doctor before receiving radiocontrast agents for imaging tests, as these may increase the risk of kidney damage when used with torsemide.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
