Cresemba

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Cresemba if you are allergic to isavuconazole or have familial short QT syndrome, an inherited heart rhythm condition. Cresemba can shorten the heart’s QT interval. Cresemba must not be used with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, such as ketoconazole or high-dose ritonavir, or strong CYP3A4 inducers, such as rifampin, carbamazepine, St. John’s wort or long-acting barbiturates. These can substantially increase or decrease isavuconazole levels. Your prescriber should review all medicines you take, as Cresemba can also affect the levels of other medicines. Serious liver reactions have been reported. Liver blood tests should be checked before and during treatment. In people with severe liver impairment, Cresemba should be used only when the benefits outweigh the risks, with monitoring for adverse reactions. Cresemba may harm an unborn baby. Tell your prescriber if you are pregnant. People who could become pregnant should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding should be stopped during treatment. Severe allergic reactions, including fatal anaphylaxis, have been reported with Cresemba. Serious skin reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, have been reported with other azole antifungals. Cresemba must be stopped if anaphylaxis or a serious skin reaction occurs, and supportive treatment should be started as needed. Reactions can occur during intravenous infusion; the infusion must be stopped if these occur. The intravenous preparation may form insoluble particles after preparation and must be given through an in-line filter.
