Before taking this medicine

Do not take Clenpiq if you have: • Severe kidney impairment (creatinine clearance below 30 mL/minute), because magnesium may build up in the body. • A blockage in the digestive tract or ileus (when the bowel stops moving normally). • A hole in the bowel wall. • Toxic colitis or toxic megacolon. • Gastric retention (when stomach contents do not empty properly). • An allergy to any ingredient in Clenpiq. Caution is needed if you have kidney impairment or take medicines that affect kidney function. Clenpiq can cause fluid and electrolyte imbalances, abnormal heart rhythms, seizures, kidney problems and fainting. Fainting has led to falls, head injuries and fractures. Adequate hydration is important; your healthcare professional should review your other medicines and may arrange blood tests before and after use. Any suspected bowel blockage or perforation must be ruled out before use. If you have known or suspected inflammatory bowel disease, Clenpiq may cause ulcers in the bowel lining that need to be considered when interpreting colonoscopy findings. People at risk of inhaling liquid into their airways should be observed while taking it.
