Before taking this medicine

Do not use Cancidas if you have a known allergy to caspofungin acetate or any other ingredient in the product. Serious allergic reactions and severe skin reactions, including Stevens–Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, have been reported. Treatment must be stopped at the first sign of an allergic reaction, with appropriate medical treatment given. Signs may include rash, itching, facial swelling, a feeling of warmth or breathing difficulties. Cancidas can cause abnormal liver enzyme levels. Cases of liver dysfunction, hepatitis and liver failure have been reported. People who develop abnormal liver tests need monitoring for worsening liver function and a review of whether treatment should continue. Adults with moderate liver impairment require a dose adjustment by the prescriber. No data are available for adults with severe liver impairment or children with any degree of liver impairment. Use with cyclosporine requires caution because liver enzymes may rise. This combination should be used only when the potential benefit outweighs the risk, with monitoring if liver tests become abnormal. Based on animal data, Cancidas may harm an unborn baby. Safety and effectiveness have not been established in infants younger than 3 months.
