Before taking this medicine

Do not take Bijuva if you have unexplained abnormal genital bleeding; breast cancer or a history of breast cancer; an estrogen-dependent tumour; liver disease or impaired liver function; or a known blood-clotting disorder such as protein C, protein S or antithrombin deficiency. It must not be used if you have, or have previously had, a deep vein blood clot, a blood clot in the lungs, a stroke or a heart attack. Do not take it if you have had an allergic reaction to Bijuva, including anaphylaxis or angioedema. Estrogen plus progestin therapy is associated with increased risks of blood clots, stroke and heart attack. Risk factors for these conditions need to be managed, and treatment must be stopped if a clot-related event occurs. Breast cancer risk should be assessed, with monitoring such as breast examinations and mammography. Estrogens increase the risk of gallbladder disease. Treatment must be stopped if severely raised blood calcium, loss of vision, severely raised triglycerides or jaundice caused by impaired bile flow occurs. Women taking thyroid replacement hormones need thyroid function monitoring.
