About AndroFeme
Overview
AndroFeme is a prescription medicine containing testosterone for use in women. It is used to treat low sexual desire after menopause when this causes distress. It works by supplementing testosterone, a hormone that helps regulate sexual desire.
What it treats
Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in postmenopausal women, persistently low sexual desire that causes personal distress.

Side effects
Common side effects include acne, oily skin, increased facial or body hair, and irritation where AndroFeme is applied, such as redness or itching. Contact a doctor promptly if you notice a deeper voice, scalp hair loss, enlargement of the clitoris, or other signs of excessive testosterone effects. Some changes, particularly voice deepening and clitoral enlargement, may be permanent. New or worsening swelling of the hands, feet or ankles also needs medical review. Seek urgent medical help for signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use AndroFeme if you are pregnant, may be pregnant or are breastfeeding, or if you are allergic to testosterone or any other ingredient. It should not be used by anyone with known or suspected breast cancer or a tumour that may grow in response to androgens, such as testosterone. Particular caution is needed in people with heart, liver or kidney disease, because testosterone can cause fluid retention. Tell the prescriber about high blood calcium levels, a history of blood clots or a condition that increases the risk of clotting.
Interactions
Testosterone can increase the effect of warfarin and similar oral anticoagulants, so closer blood-clotting monitoring may be needed. It may also change blood sugar control and reduce insulin requirements; diabetes treatment may need review. Using testosterone with corticosteroids or adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) can increase fluid retention, particularly in people with heart, kidney or liver disease. Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter products and supplements you use, including other hormone treatments. Do not adjust these treatments without medical advice.
